The Gacaca Film Trilogy by Anne AghionThe trilogy does not include the feature length film My Neighbor My Killer, which spans the trilogy. Save $390 when you purchase the complete series Save $220 when you purchase the Gacaca film trilogy. Gacaca (Ga-CHA-cha), which literally means "justice on the grass", is a form of citizen-based justice which Rwandans decided to put into place in an attempt to deal with the crimes of the 1994 genocide. Filming for over a decade in a tiny rural hamlet, director Anne Aghion has charted the impact this experiment in transitional justice has had on survivors and perpetrators alike. The films in this highly acclaimed series have earned numerous awards, including an Emmy in 2005 and a UNESCO Felini Prize in 2003. The trilogy consists of 3 DVDs: Gacaca, Living Together Again in Rwanda? Follow the first steps in one of the worlds boldest experiments in reconciliation. 2003 Unesco Fellini Prize. (55', 2002) In Rwanda we say... The family that does not speak dies The second film looks at the impact of the return of a prisoner on his community before his trial. 2005 Emmy Winner. (54', 2004) The Notebooks of Memory The third film focuses exclusively on the Gacaca trials, with citizen-judges weighing survivor accounts of the massacres against the testimony of perpetrators. Gacaca, Living Together Again in Rwanda?55 minutes / color / 2002 / DVD-RThe first film in this award-winning trilogy ventures into the rural heart of the African nation of Rwanda. Follow the first steps in one of the worlds boldest experiments in reconciliation: the Gacaca (Ga-CHA-cha) Tribunals. These are a new form of citizen-based justice aimed at unifying this country of 8 million people after the 1994 genocide which claimed over 800,000 lives in 100 days. While world attention is focused on the unfolding procedures, award-winning documentarian Anne Aghion bypasses the usual interviews with politicians and international aid workers, skips the statistics, and goes directly to the emotional core of the story, talking one-on-one with survivors and accused killers alike. In this powerful, compassionate and insightful film, with almost no narration, and using only original footage, she captures first-hand how ordinary people struggle to find a future after cataclysm. Winner of the Unesco Fellini Prize in 2003. A production of: Dominant 7 / Gacaca Productions in association with Planète. Directed by Anne Aghion, and edited by Nadia Ben Rachid. Color 55 In Kinyarwanda, with English subtitles. Educational sales include public performance rights. Visit http://www.gacacafilms.com/store.html for licensing agreements.

Garbage! The Revolution Starts at HomeDVD, 76 min.Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home is a feature documentry about how the family household has become one of the most ferocious environmental predators of our time.
Garden of Eden, TheThe worst thing that is happening to the human race is the destruction of natural habitats. In the next three decades fourteen to twenty percent of all forms of life will no longer exist. The net result of present expansion is tremendous devastation-extinction wherever you look. We can only speculate on what untouched habitats have to offer: new pesticides, antibiotics, cancer cures. Also the value to industry of naturally produced molecules is billions of dollars. Safeguarding plants and animals in their natural habitats is the simplest and cheapest way to preserve them. We owe it to our children. The time to preserve is now. Extinction is forever. We cannot wait. The great variety of the world's plant and animal life must be safe-guarded if humankind is to continue to prosper. This beautiful and intelligent film makes clear the need for conservation to maintain economic growth, scientific investigation, and pharmaceutical research. Using humor, logic, and stunning outdoor photography, The Garden of Eden makes a clear and convincing case for the preservation of our world. Through a series of interviews and examples the film explains how environmental interests can cooperate with corporate and government developers to achieve apparently conflicting goals. Scientists, pharmacists and industry leaders examine the rationale for species preservation. They explain how the protection of habitats is the most economical way to preserve the natural diversity of our world. The film points out that this is the world we search first for new medicines, agricultural and industrial improvements and how we use hundreds of products each day that owe their existence to plants and animals. It demonstrates how we depend on our fellow species for our material welfare and ultimately for our survival. Colorful, informative and entertaining, The Garden of Eden is ideal for classroom, community groups and the general public from ages junior high through adult. Using humor, logic, and stunning outdoor photography, this Oscar-nominated film explains how environmental interests can cooperate with corporate and government developers to achieve apparently conflicting goals.

Gay Cuba (Director's Cut)The 1959 revolution which gave Cuba its independence ushered in a new era of equality, blind to race and to gender -- but not to sexual orientation. Military necessity and contemporary Stalinist ideology served only to reinforce long-held stereotypes detrimental to the integration of homosexuals into Cuba?s perpetually reforming social structure.
Gay Sex in the 70sDuring the twelve years from the Stonewall Rebellion (1969) to the first reported cases of AIDS (1981) there was a search for a definition of what it meant to be gay. And for the most part, that search required openly exploring a sexuality that for decades had been forbidden. Americans in New York and elsewhere were cutting loose from puritanical values and ascribing to the catchphrase of the time "if it feels good, do it." Suddenly, not only was sexuality allowed for gay people, sexuality was in and of itself a good thing. Today, most people, even young gay men, have no idea of what life was like in the streets of New York at that time. There are few left alive to tell them of the astounding sexual freedom and sexual excitement of day-to-day life. Considerable attention has been given to Stonewall itself and to the 80s in terms of HIV and AIDS, but much less notice has been given to the period of time between the two. This film provides that "hidden history" in a frank and thoughtful way, raising questions about how far the gay liberation movement has come and how acceptance of sexuality can affect sexual behavior, promiscuity, and the sometimes murky relationship between liberation and integration.
Gay USAArthur Bressan created a gay-America panorama when he commissioned filmmakers throughout the country to record all June 1977 Lesbian and Gay Pride parades and marches. He then cut on-the-street interviews--gay women and men talking about their lovers and how they came out--with the resulting footage, including lesbians marching against housework and drag queens protesting fascism. A revolutionary document.
Gay Youth30 min.GAY YOUTH is a powerful and accessible educational video for high schools and colleges that breaks the silence surrounding adolescent homosexuality. This important film addresses the ways in which gay and lesbian teens are still at high risk for dropping out of school, drug and alcohol abuse, violence, homelessness, and suicide. By contrasting the tragic death of 20-year old Bobby Griffith, a gay teen who could not find acceptance, with the remarkable life of 17-year old Gina Gutierrez, GAY YOUTH shows us that information, acceptance, and support make enormous differences in the lives of these young people.

George Marshall and the American CenturyThe cost of war is constantly spread before me, written neatly in many ledgers whose columns are gravestones. For that reason, I am constantly moved to find the means to prevent the calamity of war.-- George Marshall He built the mightiest army in history and selected its leaders. Eisenhower, MacArthur, and Patton all obeyed his commands. When victory was won, he bound up the world's wounds with a plan for European recovery that bore his name - The Marshall Plan. The only soldier ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, he served during his long career as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense and President of the Red Cross. Soldier and statesman, a powerful yet modest patriot, George Marshall is today an almost forgotten hero -- a private and introspective man whose influential role in matters of war and peace helped determine the course of the twentieth century. George Marshall and the American Century features rare historical footage and recordings of Marshall and Presidents Roosevelt and Truman, as well as exlusive interviews with General Matthew B. Ridgway, journalist Eric Sevareid, former Secretary of Defense Clark Clifford and many others. It brings to life the tenacious diplomat and strategist who won battles in both the European theater and on Capitol Hill, and recalls the military leader who recognized the somber legacy of war. Givebacks25 minutesF or half a century, the United Auto Workers demanded more at each contract negotiation - and got it. In 1982, after almost twelve months of agonizing bargaining, the union settled for less. What was it like during that long year? How did the UAW, one of North America's most liberal and aggressive unions, convince its members that saving their jobs depended on accepting leaner contracts? This 25-minute video presents these negotiations from the points of view of management, the union, and rank-and-file workers. Today, labor organizations in all of the major industrialized countries are trying to reconcile global competitiveness with equity for their members. Frequently, this means increasing productivity through union givebacks on work rules and benefits. What began in the American automobile industry has now spread to the world.

A Good ReturnMuch to their surprise repatriates returning from an international assignment typically find adjusting to their home country and their home company harder than the culture shock they had when they first went overseas. And the costs of a bumpy return, also known as reverse culture shock, can spread far and wide: an unhappy and unproductive employee (repats leave their companies at twice the rate of those who don't go overseas), bad publicity for expat assignments inside your organization (people are reluctant to sign up to go abroad when they see what happens when people return), and the potential loss of invaluable (and very expensive) global expertise (when the unhappy repat leaves to work for your competition!) But all of this can be prevented if organizations prepare their employees (and families) for returning home. Knowing what the personal and professional challenges are of coming home doesn't make those challenges go away, but it does make the returnee better prepared to deal with them. Just as predeparture training sets up the expat for a smooth entry into the foreign culture, repatriation training can minimize the impact of coming home. And the softer the reentry, the sooner the employee is back on his/her feet adding value to the company.

Grieving Mental IllnessBook"I think Grieving Mental Illness, by Virginia Lafond, is a book that many families and/or consumers would find valuable. Certainly finding a way to come to terms with an array of painful emotions is a challenge to most people touched by mental illness. Families and consumers may be aware of suffering a great deal of pain but may be unable to articulate just what that painful emotion is. Virginia Lafond's book helps them identify the nature of their pain so that they can come to terms with it. She provides considerable practical help to her readers."
Gringothonvhs, 17 min., 2003In this ironic satire, filmmaker Greg Berger takes on the theme of Mexican perspectives of the United States, its citizens, and its imperial project by turning them on their ear. His despair turns to hope when he observes some of the millions of Mexico City street vendors who fight their own daily war for survival on the streets.
Groundsvhs, 11 min., 2000Grounds is a visceral documentary -- a film that explores the scent of history and the organic texture of racial and migratory memory. In this film, that texture takes the form of coffee grounds, a metaphor for the ancestral homeland of the immigrant. The piece is inspired by the true story of the filmmaker's great-grandmother, Antonia Gonzalez, who during the Mexican Revolution hid family treasures inside a coffee can and fled with her two daughters into Texas. Her federalist husband, however, was captured and executed, leaving Antonia a widow. Years later, Antonia (or "Mama Tonia" as her descendents called her) returned to Mexico looking for both her husband's gravesite and the items in the coffee can beneath her house.
